Every week on
Tom Lucas' Retro-Rock show, Mark Oberg the Head Weenie gives his picks of software, web
sites and technology news. This week: High bandwidth treats
Cable modems ISDN, xDSL, wireless and satellite are great because of the extra
bandwidth but most sites don't let you fully exploit it. Here are a few good sites
that will give you a chance to see what all that bandwidth is good for. |
| OnBroadband.com |
| This site, from cable provider Comcast, is a portal for
broadband content. You will find info on access providers; hardware and tools;
shopping; community and content. VISIT SITE |
| The Bit Screen |
| The Bit Screen premiers and distributes
original films made for the Internet. What you won't find here are pre-packaged clips shot
for TV or film. What you will find are innovative shorts created to work over the network,
with your modem speed, on your computer screen. So you get a total viewing experience -
not just part of a picture. VISIT SITE |
| Radio Moi |
| One of my personal favorites.
Radio Moi uses MP3 technology to provide CD quality music of your own choice. The
sound is crisp and crystal clear if you have a connection that can use the full bandwidth
of the site. A lower quality feed is available for 28.8 modem listeners. VISIT SITE |

| 360 Degree Hollywood |
| Take a virtual stroll down Hollywood Boulevard with this
site from E! Online. Visit the Universal City Walk, the Hollywood sign, Mann's
Chinese Theater, Santa Monica Pier and the Playboy Mansion. Each location features a
360º panoramic view and the ability to zoom in and out on the scene. VISIT SITE |
| The Prince of Egypt |
| The site for the new movie The Prince of
Egypt uses Flash 3 techology to offer a rich multimedia experience. Be sure to click
on the note at the upper left corner to hear the musical soundtrack for this site which
has story excerpts, behind the scenes info and music from the film. VISIT SITE |
| Live Jam |
| Live Jam is an experimental site that
lets musicians play music together using MIDI instruments or a virtual keyboard. VISIT SITE |
