| Spider v1.04 [185k] W9x/NT FREE
Erasing a file is permanent--right? Well, just because you've cleared the history and file caches in IE4 (or IE5), don't think that the "deleted" information is completely gone. Without removing certain DAT files, someone can still find out where you've been and what you saw. Don't believe me? Download Spider and find out for yourself. To remove the problem: drop to the command prompt (outside of Windows), get into the "History" or "Temporary Internet Files" directories, and remove all DAT files therein--only then will you be safe. Dr. Associate v0.05 Beta [1.6M] W9x/NT US$10 My parents used to warn me of guilt by association. Since I hung out with kids who had big noses, people thought I had a big nose, too. It turns out that I just had a big head. Now, Windows is definitely guilty of not making it simple to change a file's program association. "Dr. Associate to the Explorer room... Dr. Associate to the Explorer room. STAT!" This file physician will enable you to easily associate one particular file type with several capable applications... even if you're not sure what program to associate a file with!GravityBox WorldView v1.0 [2.6M] W9x/NT FREE I remember having to research countries in the library when I was in grade school. Ya know, we had to find out what the main imports and exports were... and, naturally, we were relying on the tried-and-true encyclopedia (1846 edition). GravityBox WorldView brings the same demographic information to your computer: Geography, People, Government, Economy, Communications, Military, Transportation, etc.. It's quick, clean, comprehensive, and (more importantly) you know the information has been updated at least one time in the last century.SecureSet v1.0 [1k] W9x/NT FREE "Trend Micro has created a tool that quickly, easily restores security settings of Word 97 and Word 2000. [This] will automatically reset your system registry to enable Word 97's macro warning feature again, or reset Word 2000's macro security setting to 'High.'" It would be wise for you to run this Registry patch; its imperative to have Word macro protection enabled.Redsoft Nitro v1.3 [3.5M] W9x/NT FREE Surf the Web, but don't let the Web surf you. If you're still not happy with the performance and feature sets of Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or Opera, consider changing the shell. With Nitro, you'll be using the familiar IE browser engine--with a more powerful "skin" of sorts. You'll be able to extract more information from cookies, create your own "groups" of favorite Web pages, and browse multiple pages within the same window (MDI). There is no learning curve here; just fire it up and start surfing!Clean 'n' Go v2.1 [134k] W9x/NT FREE I'm not trying to complain here, but Gretchen left a candle burning in our apartment the other day while we were gone... for eight hours. Upon returning, I found soot all over Mr. Bigglesworth. I had to "shut down" and give my keyboard a good spring cleaning. Had I used this utility, I would have been able to clean my peripherals while remaining in Windows! Click one button, and your mouse will be disabled (so that you may clean it). Another click, and you can clean your keyboard. The author's got killer cleaning tips to boot.MediaRing Talk 99 [3.0M] W9x/NT FREE It's been a few years since I experienced my first "vocal" conversation with someone in another state without picking up the telephone. That was a true thrill, I tell ya. IP Telephony has come a long way since then; here's a free program that not only sports a killer interface, but it also produces top-quality output. With it, you can speak directly with other people (who also have MediaRing Talk 99 installed) as though you were talking over the phone. Here's the kicker: there are no long distance charges!Microsoft Y2k Product Analyzer v1.0 [447k] W9x/NT FREE "The Microsoft Year 2000 Product Analyzer scans a computer's hard drive, looking for core Microsoft software and generates a report with year 2000-information. The Microsoft Year 2000 Product Analyzer, in an English version now, will be available in 14 languages within the next sixty days."CDCheck v1.1 [64k] W9x/NT FREE "CDCheck checks CD integrity by checking all files on CD. All corrupted files are reported. This application's main purpose is checking CDs for errors and preventing further loss of data if CD begins to deteriorate It is also good for checking if CD was written properly."WinPatrol v2.0 [710k] W9x FREE Not everyone can afford a personal security guard. Heck, I don't even own anything worth guarding right now (besides Mr. Bigglesworth). I suppose I'd hire a "watcher" if s/he was well trained, never complained, and didn't cost me an arm & a leg. WinPatrol knocked on my door the other day and I let him in; since then, he's been watching my computer for anything suspicious--keeping an eye out for potential viruses, helping me track down possible spammers, and pushing cookies away from my mouth. Nice guy!Web2Text v1.6 [190k] W9x/NT FREE Have you ever run across a Web page that had great information on it, but was also presented poorly? Or, what if you wanted to save the information from a Web page as simple text, but didn't want to mess with formatting headaches? When you need a text version of an HTML document, turn to Web2Text. Forget about copying, pasting, and formatting it by hand--this utility will take care of those tasks automatically. Operation is straightforward; perfect for people who steer clear from sending HTML e-mail.nCopy v1.5 [1.5M] W9x/NT SW$10 Copying machines are pretty cool (and generally very expensive). I remember once spending an entire evening making copies of weird facial contortions when I should have been photocopying sections from my Biology book. I passed the class, but that glass needed a bit of cleaning when I was finished with it. If you have a scanner, you can quickly turn it into a copier with nCopy! There aren't a lot of options at this point, but it gets the job done if you don't already have "copying" software. No butts allowed.WebPage-O-Matic v1.0 [1.3M] W9x/NT FREE I haven't taught many HTML coding classes in recent months--largely because WYSIWYG editors have taken hold of the Web publishing market. Novices shouldn't need to learn the HTML tags before being able to have their information published online. And, with WebPage-O-Matic, they won't have to. Enter a bit of information here, click a few buttons there... voila! Within minutes, anybody can upload a ready-to-view set of pages. NOTE: a personal edition is also available for downloading. No experience necessary.Change Case v2.5 [152k] W9x/NT FREE Some users like their folders and filenames to contain nothing but lowercase letters; other users we want to see each character capitalized. And then there's the splitter group who wants only the first letters of a folder/filename capitalized. Well, no matter which of those groups you fall into, this utility will help. With the click of a button, you can change the case structure of all filenames/folders in any given directory (and subdirectories, too)! It's an open and shut case.DragonLinux v0.75 [9.4M] W9x/NT FREE Some of you Lockergnomies are wondering when a Lockergnome Linux newsletter will hit the web. Well, I really don't have much time to fiddle with new operating systems right now, but rest assured, when I do--a newsletter will most likely follow. Diving directly into Linux with no prior UNIX experience can be a rather daunting task, but DragonLinux might make your transition a bit more comfortable. You can put this version of Linux on the same partition as Windows! No muss, no fuss.Keyboard Standard v2.10 [603k] W9x/NT FREE Keyboard on the fritz? No worries, mate. Chuck it out the window and use a "keyboard emulator" instead. Of course, I recommend that you use a *real* keyboard with your computer, but sometimes situations arise for which there are no immediate solutions. When (not if) your keyboard locks up during a Windows session, you can open Keyboard Standard and use it like a normal... duh, keyboard. The on-screen layout should be familiar; you can finish mission critical tasks with ease.ThinkWave Educator Express v1.6.2 [11.7M] W9x/NT FREE Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I became a school teacher? I've got my degree, but I'm not sure if I'd be as happy as I am right now. Look at all the cool programs I never would have discovered--like this one! It was designed for classroom teachers who want to use their PC to help manage student information, class schedules, tests, quizzes, assignments, and attendance. It was built to be used in conjunction with e-mail! A "Pro" version is also available with more features.Font Properties Extension v2.1 [477k] W9x/NT FREE "If you right click on a font file in Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT its basic properties are displayed. This extension adds several new property tabs to this properties dialog box. These include information relating to font origination and copyright, the type sizes to which hinting and smoothing are applied, and the code pages supported by extended character sets." Why these things weren't included with Windows, I'll never know.PhotoModeler Lite v3.1 [4.6M] W9x/NT FREE I'm sure (in the future) we'll be able to take three-dimensional photographs with our cameras. Until then, we're stuck in the "plain Jane" world of 2D. PhotoModeler Lite is based on photogrammetry, the science of extracting data from photographs. With it, you can take photos of real objects and three-dimensionalize them! The newly-created model can then be used in a variety of applications (like VRML). You can step up to the "Pro" version for better performance and features.Metapad v1.0 [18k] W9x/NT FREE What!? Another NOTEPAD replacement? Okay, so what makes this one different? Well, it's smaller than the Windows notepad, runs (seemingly) quicker, comes with search & replace functionality, remembers window size and position, has more keyboard shortcuts... and if those options don't win you over, Metapad was also created by a Lockergnomie! It still has a memory limit (like the Windows Notepad), but you'd only want to use this editor for simple tasks anyway. Notepad has been permanently replaced on my machine.URL CLIPtomania v1.0 [280k] W9x/NT FREE Lockergnome issues are full of URLs--too many to count. When you're reading an issue or just surfing the 'Net, how do you keep track of the URLs you'd like to visit at a later time? What if you need to keep track of the URLs encountered during a "regular" Windows session? Time to turn your PC into a cliptomaniac. When a URL is copied to the clipboard, URL CLIPtomania will automatically "record" it in a log file (of sorts). You can edit, delete, or save the ever-expanding list of URLs at any time.Push the Freakin' Button v1.04 [130k] W9x/NT FREE We've all walked up to elevators and pushed the button when we knew darn well it had already been pushed. I'm sure we don't mean to be "silly", it just happens sometimes. And in Windows, we'll often encounter dialog boxes that annoy us... ya know, like: asking us to reconnect, asking us to confirm a task, telling us a web page is down, etc.. Push the freakin' button already! And... that's pretty much all this program does for ya. Removing these minor annoyances from your day will surely help productivity--and you'll be less apt to lose your mind. Ah, push it.WinCRON v1.33 [76k] W9x/NT FREE Some of you UNIX-heads will appreciate this little utility. If you're familiar with CRON jobs, then WinCRON will come in handy. It'll allow you to schedule the running of certain applications (with much more control than with Windows 98's Task Scheduler): "sends keyboard commands to running applications, has 40+ Internal commands and 25+ Internal variables, detects presence of Windows/dialogs, etc.."Virtual Network Computing [1.0M] W9x/NT FREE "VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing 'desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures... It is small and simple. The Win32 viewer, for example, is about 150K in size and can be run directly from a floppy. There is no installation needed." Nifty!X-Setup v3.2 [2.3M] W9x/NT FREE Still shopping around for an all-in-one tweaking tool? Well, this doesn't do EVERYTHING, but it offers over 220 tweaks for Windows 9x/NT4... a few of which I haven't seen before (as well as some "obscure" ones): edit your icon cache, add a keyboard shortcut to Windows Help navigation, tweak auto-end program timing, edit the Windows 98 Map Cache, and (honestly) a LOT more.iRover v1.3.2 [1.1M] W9x/NT FREE Lockergnome was born from my frustration with not being able to find what I was looking for online; I knew what kind of stuff I wanted, but I couldn't find an "outstanding" service providing affordable, quality information on an ongoing basis. iRover was created because of similar frustrations, although specifically regarding "search engine" searches. It has a simple interface, and the results are quickly thrown into HTML. But the beauty doesn't stop there: it pulls in pages from SEVERAL indexes and the results can be saved for future use. Have iRover fetch something for you next time...SideBar v1.0 [150k] W9x FREE Still haven't got enough utilities to make your PC more Mac-like? Even if you hate Macs and want nothing to do with them, you've got to admit that SideBar is a fantastic utility. You'll get a little tab on the left side of your screen--press it, and out pops a range of icons that perform various system-related tasks. When you're finished, press the end of the tab again and it'll return to its minimized state. I remember seeing something like this on my friend's Mac once--rather ingenious. If you know of any other "Mac" utils for the PC that haven't been featured, let me know!Startup CPL v1.0 [37k] W9x/NT FREE Windows 98 users have the "MSCONFIG" utility, but Windows 95 users are pretty much stuck with having to dive into the registry to edit/remove all "startup" programs. Not anymore! Any one of you can download this excellent Control Panel Applet to help manage your system's startup stuff. This applet also works in NT.Tiny Web Server v1.6 [72k] W9x/NT FREE You've got a computer, but you don't want to spend a hundred bucks to turn it into a web server. If you're low on disk space, or you want something that'll just "get the job done", check out the (possibly) world's tiniest web server! "TinyWeb is intended to be a simple Win32 daemon for regular (TCP/http) and secure (SSL/https) web servers."AutoMail v1.0 [30K] W9x/NT FREE Looking for another SendTo menu enhancement? You might already have the ability to mail a file to a friend using your default e-mail program, but if you'd like to bypass the mail client, AutoMail is the right add-on. Configure it, place a shortcut to it in your SendTo menu, then you can send any file directly to a friend (via e-mail). Nothing fancy, just quick. The program's "expanded" options are grayed out (this is still a work in progress), but hopefully the author will be enabling them soon. I think I'd be lost without having that SendTo menu. Wouldn't you?WatchCat v1.2.1 [137k] W9x/NT FREE Do you like watching cats? Well, here's a "watching cat"... and this one won't shed or make you sneeze. Looking for a good home--free to any loving, responsible user. It's a relatively quiet pet, and well behaved, too. WatchCat "hides" any given window from the Taskbar and places it in its System Tray icon menu. Simply right-click on the minimize button in a window and it'll disappear from direct sight. You can also set it up to automatically close or hide certain windows after they've been inactive for a period of time. Here kitty, kitty!Clipomatic v2.0 [61k] The Windows clipboard is well known for being powerful... NOT! In this world, somebody cuts, copies, or pastes once every .033 seconds. That's a scary statistic, folks, considering that the clipboard (by default) can only hold one bit of cut/copied data. When you load Clipomatic into memory and need to paste information somewhere in Windows, hit a new keyboard combination (CTRL+ALT+V) and it'll pop up a new context menu with the last X items copied to the clipboard. You can save "clipped" sets for future use, and create a permanent set of "clips" which can be accessed anytime. Quick, unique, powerful, killer.Bobby v3.0 [5.8M] W9x/NT FREE My grandmother suffers from macular degeneration; she doesn't surf the Web, but I'd like to think that if she did, she'd be able to enjoy the same information that you and I "take for granted." HTML coders aren't always cognizant of their tag errors--Bobby can help. It's "a web-based public service offered by CAST that analyzes web pages for their accessibility to people with disabilities as well as their compatibility with various browsers." You can download this program and run it on your PC, or use the online form (at this Web site).TextExtract v1.0.0 [538K] W9x/NT FREE Corrupted documents are a major problem... especially when you need to view (or edit) information tucked away inside of them. Instead of trying to clean those error-ridden files by hand, use TextExtract. It will scan any file (corrupted or not) and extract the text strings it encounters into a separate file. You won't even have time to break a sweat. You should also swing by the Web site to pick up the Writer's Database (for freelance writers) and Music Database (for those who have an extensive music album collection).HarmWave v1.3 [304k] W9x/NT FREE Ever wonder how some folks go about creating "seamless" images for their Web pages? You may hear them brag about their high-end image editors, but you don't have to spend a single dollar to get similar results. Quit taking graphics from other Web sites--make your own with HarmWave! A scribble here, an internal filter there... blammo! You've got a Web-ready image! The UI isn't perfect, but usage is pretty straightforward. The author seems intent on making this a must-have tool for all Web content providers. It won't harm ya!WheatWorks Free Financial Calculators When I announced that Gretchen & I are new home owners, a few of you responded with this statement: "Welcome to eternal debt." Well, it's better than throwing our money away while building someone else's equity! I discovered a few mortgage calculators floating around on the 'Net; some of them showed me how we could save money in the long run (while building equity quicker). Assuming that not everybody is looking for mortgage software, I decided to feature this entire page--it's filled with financial calculators galore.Proxy+ v2.1 [500k] W9x/NT FREE "Proxy+ is a program that runs on a workstation or a server with MS Windows 9x/NT and connection to Internet. [It] works as a firewall, proxy server, and mail server." Featuring: increased security through separation of the LAN from the Internet, and management via WWW interface. This is free for 3-user networks, otherwise it is US$99+.Evolvable WebTest v4.0 [2.0M] W9x/NT FREE Wise Web developers always test their pages under a variety of circumstances: operating system, browser type, browser version, screen resolution, color depth, etc.. It's also important to remember server-side variables like: how many hits can your site endure before there is a noticeable slowdown? Evolvable WebTest was designed to put your site under a great deal of stress so that you might see (first hand) the effects of heavy traffic. Does your Web host pass the test, or is it time to find a new carrier? Liquid goo phase: complete.Argentum Infophilia v0.60 [1.7M] W9x FREE What do you want to catalog today? Stamps, stickers, or stuffed animals with Styrofoam beans stuck inside of them? It doesn't matter what you enjoy collecting--Argentum Infophilia will help you keep them organized. It's a database management system designed for maximum flexibility with data entry; the tree-like structure is straightforward and practical. Every "node" can hold an unlimited amount of attributes--you're truly limited only by the amount of free space on your disk. Infophiliacs need not fear this program.Registry Editor Extensions v1.2 [291k] W9x/NT FREE Without REGEDIT, most power users would be lost; you have to be very careful when you're working with the Windows Registry. One false move and you could inadvertently wipe out important system settings. With Registry Editor Extensions installed, editing and tweaking the registry becomes easier; REGEDIT will work just as it did before, only now it will have a "combo box" at the top to help you navigate through the most recently accessed keys! This will definitely help any of you Registry divers.SpaceChecker v2.3 [3.0M] W9x/NT FREE It's relatively simple to figure out how much disk space is being used on your own PC; right-click on your Hard Drive icon (C:) and select 'Properties'. Finding out how much disk space you're using on your Web account isn't nearly as simple... without using a utility like SpaceChecker. Your account can be set up on either a UNIX or NT server and this program will essentially show you (graphically & textually) what files and directories are consuming the most (and least) amount of space. Check it out!ANNOTSX v1.0.0 [266k] W9x/NT FREE "Long file names" have always aided users in determining the contents for any given file; "March 1999 Marketing Report" is a lot less cryptic than "M99MREPT." However, a file name might not disclose everything there is to know... or, everything you'd like to know about any particular file. After installing this simple add-on, you'll find a new sheet (Tab) when you pull up the properties for a file; you can now make unique notes for each one of your files. Kinda like yellow stickies (with less waste)!WhoIsNot v4.0 [1.8M] W9x/NT US$30 Does everybody have to be so "positive" all the time? Instead of asking whois, have you ever considered asking whoisnot? Why not? This utility does for domain names what the browser does for Web pages. With it, you can uncover available domain names (from a user-specified list), search for domain names using custom filters, look for domain name variations with any given word, as well as quickly register one or more domain names. And those are just a few of the more outstanding features. Whoisnot downloading this?WinSystem98 v3.4.7 [223K] W9x FREE Boy, your Desktop looks awfully dull today. I can see a few scattered icons and a nifty graphic, but there's no utility to keep you informed of what's currently going on inside your PC. With this gadget running, not only can you monitor your RAM and hard drive activity, but your motherboard and CPU temperatures can be seen as well! While the power user will appreciate this information more than the novice, this tool could help troubleshoot problems on any machine. It's software explicitly made for hardware!RegFix v0.95 [304k] W9x/NT FREE I don't want to scare novices away from directly accessing the Windows Registry; as long as you're careful, and make "backups" of USER.DAT and SYSTEM.DAT before you begin, you should be fairly safe. Here's another great Registry tool every user should have (created for both experts and novices). RegFix will allow you to compare multiple copies of the Registry (which were created at different times, possibly on different computers). This utility acts only as a viewer--you can't mess anything up with it. Don't be frightened!VAKCER Project Tracker v1.5 [277k] W9x/NT US$50 I've been known to do consulting work on the side. It's difficult for me to keep track of how much time I spend on any given project (and/or in any given application). From the looks of it, I'm not alone. VAKCER is perfect for consultants who charge by the hour; the program will automatically keep track of how much time you spend working on a project (within certain applications). While it works with over 200 productivity programs, you can customize it to reflect your rates and project types.URLcook v1.71 [16k] W9x/NT FREE I featured this little gadget a long time ago, but it has developed into a more solid utility since then. Web forms are all over the place, but not everybody has access to CGI-BIN scripts. Many people use e-mail forms (with a "mailto" action) on their web pages, but the output is usually unreadable. You can translate that data into something legible in a matter of seconds with URLcook. The author also has a phenom search & replace program called LightningSearch--check it out while you're there.Iomega Photoprinter v1.0 [1.1M] W9x/NT FREE I wish I could go back to all the "picture days" I had in grade school. Man, if only someone would have handed me a comb. Actually, that wouldn't have worked; my hair's always been so thick, I would have needed a brush. Nevertheless, I remember trading my wallet-sized snapshots with friends. This program will allow you to resize your digital photos (from wallet size to 8x10) for printing in full color on photo-quality paper. Parents: don't let your children be victims of bad photos.Registry Key Backup v1.2.0 [232k] W9x/NT FREE This electronic newsletter is sent to two kinds of Lockergnomies: novices and experts. What separates the two? Well, we all want to learn how to make Windows easier to work with, but some of us are a little more daring in our adventures. If you've successfully used REGEDIT at one point in your life, I'd consider you an expert. If (and when) you decide to Registry dive, be sure to back up the keys you plan on editing (this utility will help). It's always wise to wear a lifejacket in the Registry river.2xExplorer v0.99 [221k] W9x FREE I never liked Windows 3.1's File Manager. Microsoft included it with Windows 9x only to appease those of you who did. The Windows Explorer is better than WINFILE in several ways, but it still can't easily handle certain rudimentary tasks. 2xExplorer is a 32-bit file manager which sports a dual-pane interface and advanced filtering. It's like the author combined the best of EXPLORER with the best of WINFILE in his navigator. It's small, effective, and simple to use--with 2x the power.ICQ Plus v1.01 [1.5M] W9x/NT FREE I was one of the first people to start using ICQ (#144832). At that time, not many people (that I knew of) were using it on a regular basis. However, through the years, it has become one of the world's most popular shareware applications. I didn't start using it "whole hog" until a year ago; instant messaging is now an important part of my Internet communications toolbox. I never liked the ICQ UI, but with ICQ Plus, I can easily change the program's appearance. It's about time!PrintFile v2.1.3 [191k] W9x/NT FREE "PrintFile recognizes plain text, PostScript, Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) and binary formats. PrintFile can also act as a print spooler, watching a specified directory for files. Whenever a file appears in that directory it will automatically be printed." If you have any PRN files, this'll handle them, too.Sleepy v2.1b [282k] W9x/NT FREE It's time for me to go to bed, but before I do, allow me to *YAWN* tell you about Sleepy. It'll shut down Windows at any given time you specify... which is helpful if you're trying to break the habit of using your computer past 3AM. "After the Welcome screen is gone (unless you clicked Exit), Sleepy can't be turned off." That's an awesome security measure. If nothing, this is quite a unique system utility (with many features).Paste & Save v1.04 [227k] W9x FREE I ate a lot of things when I was in pre-school: marshmallow snowmen, licorice whips, and paste. I couldn't help myself--it had to be done (as I recall, it tasted a bit minty). I'm not suggesting that you (or anybody else) eat any sort of adhesive, but don't discount what paste can do for you. For instance, 'Paste & Save' will sit quietly in your System Tray... every time you paste text somewhere, it'll log the date & time and include the snippet. This would be nice to have if you'd like to monitor rudimentary editing activities (either yours or someone else's).Reader's Pal v1.0 [58k] W9x/NT FREE One of my fondest childhood memories was lying in bed (right before bedtime) and reading a children's story book. If I read anything before bedtime nowadays, it's usually on my computer. Actually, I just read a tip the other day which should help increase my reading speed (don't say the words aloud in your head as you see them). Then a Lockergnomie created this small application; this buddy will assist you in reading on-screen text: from the clipboard, in a text file, or from drag & drop operations. Colors and speed are adjustable; it makes a great friend.IVM Telephone Software v1.0 [1.0M] W9x/NT FREE Leave a beep after the message, but don't hang up yet--my computer has been magically transformed from a $2000.00 calculator into an answering machine & voice mail system. IVM is simple in design, but is extremely functional. It boasts: multiple phone line support, caller ID logging, e-mail forwarding of messages, call transfer, remote access, and more. If you just started a home office, or if you don't want voice mail charges on your phone bill, IVM will be your savior. Now, if only I could get people to call me and leave messages...@nyMail 0.99.1 Beta [2.0M] W9x/NT FREE Inbox checkers (pretty much) do the same thing, and I realize that every user has different needs. Now, upon saying that, I'd like to point out @nyMail. With it, you can check to see if you have mail waiting for you in any one of your webmail accounts... and POP3 Inboxes can be checked as well. If you're the type of person who needs to check his/her messages often, and you have one or more web e-mail addresses, I know this gem will start saving you time immediately. It also allows you to compose webmail messages OFFLINE! The author notes that it should work with many of the major webmail services.Simple Shopper v1.2 [8.1M] W9x/NT FREE Gretchen & I initially had difficulties growing accustomed to each other's dining habits. However, after a few trips to the supermarket, we pretty much know what each other enjoys having in the refrigerator. It's nice to make grocery lists, but sometimes we forget about certain obligatory items, good prices, etc.. I downloaded Simple Shopper to help me create & maintain an electronic grocery list. Although the size of the download is incredibly bloated, I couldn't find a comparable utility. It's now easier to keep track of coupons, specials, and all the other "stuff" related to grocery shopping. Clean up in aisle 27!ShellGEM v1.3 [348k] W9x FREE Is the right-click menu perfect? I thought so, until I ran into this add-on. When you drag & drop a file using your right mouse button, typically only 3 to 5 options pop up (Move, Copy, Create Shortcut, Cancel, etc.). With ShellGEM installed, you'll have a whole new range of options. Now when you perform the same task, you'll be able to send the objects to any given folder on your system! The cascading menus pop out quickly, and you can configure it to work with archived files as well. It'll even keep a history and favorites list for you automatically. A true gem!All-Purpose Spell Checker v1.0 [921k] W9x/NT FREE When I first started Lockergnome, I didn't spell chekc anything. Since I'm a relatively fast typist (and somewhat of a perfectionist), I figured I'd catch all of my mistakes before sending an issue out. Well, long story short: I'm human. It takes no time at all to spell chekk a document--and when you're using this puppy, it's even easier. Simply open up a document, press a button, click on the document window, and the document's contents will be inserted into APSC. It'll speel check the "words" and then allow you to paste it back into your original document. Neat!ICQ 99a v2.13 b1700 [3.9M] W9x/NT FREE Okay, when I first saw the 99 beta of ICQ a few months ago, I wasn't at all impressed. However, this "new" ICQ is definitely something to write home about. It might not be leaner, but it's cleaner (although not perfect). ICQ is an instant messaging client that any one of you can sign up for. You'll be assigned a number (mine is 144832) and when your friends are online, you'll be able to exchange messages & files with them. I recommend upgrading to the latest version (above) as soon as possible; there are too many enhancements to list (which is a good thing).Talking Box v1.4 [915k] W9x/NT FREE Speech recognition is still a long way from perfection--but at least it's getting better with each passing day (supposedly). Microsoft has something called "Agent" which can be used to translate text into speech. After downloading Talking Box and Microsoft's Agent technology, you can copy any bit of text to the clipboard and your computer will read it back to you. No, your PC isn't possessed--it's just Peety the Parrot! Heck, your "Agent" will even say the time at specified intervals, too. Talk about taking your computer to the next level... |
