Not exactly sure why (there are plenty of good sites for Windows software) but this place has a certain charm that goes well with its excellent selection of files that is updated daily. Maybe it's just the name.... TUCOWS - The name stands for The Ultimate Collection Of Winsock Software but the selection goes beyond just browsers and Internet software. You can find most anything here for Windows 3.x/95/98NT or Macintosh. They also have sites for PDA's like the Palm Pilot, games and Windows themes. With 420+ local mirror sites, you can be sure to get good download speeds too. Windrivers.com - We haven't found a more extensive site for finding drivers for Windows. This place has just about every manufacturer listed with info and links to their driver support pages. There's also info on BIOS updates, installation guides and a users forum. Very useful site! Developer Shed - This is a site devoted to web site development. It has sections that cover news of interest to developers, discussion forums and mailing lists (we've posted questions there that no one else could answer and had a reply with example code within 24 hours) and resources such as well written tutorials on everything from basic HTML to javascript to PHP/FI. Another useful site we rely on regularly. CD Recordable FAQ - Andy McFadden has compiled a very complete and up to date FAQ which covers just about everything you'd ever want to know about CD-R. Hardware, software, recording techniques, buying sources and more. Fast Graphics - Blazing fast video! You'll find the info you need to get more, better, faster here. Good site for gamers, graphic artists and CAD designers who need the speediest video available. Wim's BIOS Page - Your computers BIOS is something that is often ignored. Lots of interesting stuff can be found there. Winfiles.com - Steve Jenkins started this site as Windows95.com and has expanded it to include all things Windows. Now the site has software in every category for Windows 95/98NT/CE. The site isn't just a software collection. They also test the programs and the best get their WINner awards and GETIT's. Other features include drivers, how-to articles and info on bug fixes. EarthWeb - They created the Gamelan directory for Java in 1995 which grew into Developer.com, an excellent resource for all types of developers. Now they have added a few other sites under their umbrella: the JARS rating service for Java applets; HTML Goodies, an award winning site for information on HTML and other mark-up languages; JavaScripts.com, which has resources and examples of scripting languages; and Intranet Journal, which is an e-zine for intranet and extranet developers. All nice sites, all useful, all recommended. |
